More than 80 exhibitors from tourism, food, fashion accessories, gifts, crafts and house-wares all over Central Visayas would be trooping to The Block of the Island City Mall soon to offer their best products in one of the country’s longest running provincial products fairs.

According to the Philippine Government Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Bohol, they are expecting even more exhibitors to participate in the Sandugo Trade Expo 2010 set July 21-25, 2010.

At the expo, Visayan craft producers who had a series of trainings and one-on-one consultations with master designers would present their working prototypes, says DTI Provincial Director Maria Elena Arbon.

She said “the Sandugo Trade Expo is a culmination of a series of product development initiatives geared towards improving the quality and design of the export oriented crafts and ethnic food in the region.”

This not only stresses the region’s unique products and services but also makes use of local ingenuity, Dir. Arbon reiterated.

Spotlight will be trained on locally made crafts using mixed media and new design patterns, a result of the Materials R&D Project which assists raffia weavers in Bohol, she excitedly bared.

By mixed media applications, the weavers have experimented with recycled materials, buri, abaca, old plastic twine mixed together with raffia and other native materials.

From these hand-wovens, select exporter companies convert them into actual products.

And for those buyers who want to get materials, the fair will also feature a raw materials exhibit to afford buyers and product designers a plethora of materials to use.

All these would also be complemented with craft demonstrations for the interested public, she added.

With Bohol becoming a bankable tourism destination, the fair would also display emerging tourist destinations in the region, and ready packaged tours would be readily available at the booths.

Booths will also display the wealth of natural wonders and the related adventure and fun activities available for tourists and visitors who wish to explore the new destinations on the rise.

Considered one of the country’s longest running provincial trade fairs, the Sandugo expo in 2010 selects “Materials Fusion – Heritage for the Future,” as its theme.

This year’s trade event will not only highlight the famed world class product lines and handicraft prototypes, processed food, fashion accessories and GTH creations, but also highlight the first output of the initiatives by the Philippine Government Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), DTI sources shared.

Moreover, government initiated or backed programs geared towards highlighting culture and heritage and making our local products and services globally competitive would also be at the fair.

For the past 21 years, the Sandugo Products Showcase has carved a name for itself for national and international buyers, exporters, buying agents, wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers and sub-contractors.
